In 2022, Tim Lankau and a handful of construction professionals, inventors, and engineers built one of the first commercially viable 3d construction printers in a field in Central Texas. Less than a year later, they had printed one of the largest single-family homes ever built using a construction printer. Along the way, they brought in the world’s leading material scientists to develop the lowest cost, fastest setting, strongest, and lowest cost 3d printing mortar and mixing system in the world. Word got out that they could print a house at true cost savings, and Hive3d began delivering on bigger projects including a small rental home development and several ground-breaking custom homes.
Ethan Wong previously worked for 3D Construction Printing giant ICON and left the company to “assemble” a small group of engineers and construction professionals to create a patented panelized building system that promised to break through the barriers that have held modular construction back for decades. By 2023, their company, ASMBLD Modular, was building full sized houses and ADUs with industry leading speed and cost structures.
Tim and Ethan met in 2023, when Tim was looking for a way to panelize the roofs of Hive’s 3d printed homes. They saw an opportunity to combine their building system to deliver complete, near indestructible building shells at true cost and speed savings. They merged their companies, forming HiveASMBLD in January of 2024 as part of a SEED round capital raise.
Since the merger, HiveASMBLD has brought in some of the industry’s brightest minds to create the fastest, most economical, and most practical automated construction technology in the world. We are on our third version of our construction printer and the world has noticed.
HiveASMBLD has received a massive amount of local, national, worldwide, and grassroots media as we have delivered on project after project. Today, HiveASMBLD is working on one of the first 3d printed hotels in the world, a groundbreaking housing development in Marfa, Texas; custom homes in most of the major Texas cities, a rental home project in Luling, Texas, Habitat for Humanity houses in Virginia, and the world’s largest affordable 3d printed hybrid housing development in Houston.
We have a waitlist of hundreds of exciting projects so there is so much more to come.
